The weather in Bergen can change quickly, even in summer, so it’s important to dress accordingly. Here’s some tips:
Comfortable hiking or running shoes with good grip (the trail can be steep and uneven).
Breathable sportswear as a base layer.
A lightweight, wind- and waterproof jacket, in case of rain or wind.
Optional light sweater or fleece if it’s chilly.
Small backpack with a water bottle and maybe a dry shirt for after the hikeoes here
And no heels! :)

At the top of Mount Ulriken, we’ll have a room where you can grab a wrap and enjoy the summit. It’s also possible to order beer, wine, and soda.

You can either walk down the same trail or take the Ulriken cable car down. The cable car will not be covered by NIORD.
Join our Strava group to track your time!
Everyone attending Bergen Wind Academy 2025 is invited to join NIORD for a run - or walk - up Bergen’s tallest mountain, 643m (2,222 ft) Mount Ulriken!
We’ll gather outside the main entrance at NIORD’s office building at SKIPET at 1900 on Tuesday June 17 to take transport to the foot of the mountain.
About ‘Ulriken up’.
There are 1,333 ‘Sherpa steps’ to the top of Mount Ulriken and, while the route is generally suitable for everybody, your time up will very depend on your fitness level. A moderate walk up can take well over an hour, while those who are able to ‘go for it’ can get up there in less than 30 minutes. You’ll choose your desired tempo.
You can read more about the hike here.
It’s important to dress the part!
You’ll need suitable outdoor clothing, especially when it comes to footwear. You can check the weather forecast to help you decide. Check out the FaQ section for tips!
